Marita discovered she had Irlen syndrome in 1985, and trained in London to be a Certified Irlen Screener in1986. She returned to London to train as a Diagnostician under Helen Irlen herself at the London Clinic. She completed research with Students from St Oliver Plunkett Special School in Monkstown Dublin in conjunction with the Eye and Ear Hospital Dublin. Since then she has worked from her Dublin office but has also had clinics in Cork, Galway, Clare, Mayo, and Monaghan. She has given talks and lectures to parents, teachers, ophthalmologists and to orthoptists on Irlen Syndrome and its effects on individuals and their education. Marita has had national exposure on TV, radio, newspapers and magazines for her work with Irlen.

A passionate interest in nutrition, food science and a “holistic” approach to life lead her to write two cookery books, Smart Cooking 1 and 2, to teach people how to cook healthy meals for themselves and families. These books are now used in schools throughout the country.

She continues her work from her Irlen Ireland clinic in Dublin working closely with her screeners in Dublin, Mullingar, Galway, Limerick, Ennis, Cork and Waterford.
