Symptoms and Distortions

Discomfort and Sensitivity

Discomfort, especially when reading

  • Strain and fatigue
  • Tired or sleepy
  • Headaches or nausea
  • Fidgety or restless
  • Eyes that hurt or become watery

Sensitivity to light

  • Fluorescent lights
  • Glare
  • Bright lights
  • Sunlight
  • Lights at night

The discomfort and sensitivity to light associated with Irlen syndrome may lead to problems with concentration when reading and doing academic tasks. In some cases, this may exacerbate other conditions such as ADD or ADHD.
